Excerpted from Mahmoud Royaie’s interview in 1998
The corridor under the meeting hall was a long corridor that later became known as the “death corridor”. This corridor was about 4 meters wide and 100 to 150 meters long.
We came through this corridor to a place that was actually assistant prosecutor’s office, which had previously been dedicated to “Death Committee”. This was indeed the Death Committee’s main headquarter.

From of this room on, the prisoners were made to sit down facing against the wall on both sides of the corridor. While blindfolded, they tried to exchange information in various ways and means to find out what is going on.
Nasserians, whose real name is Mohammad Moghisseh, was in charge of the prison at that time. Previously he was the assistant prosecutor of the prison. He was one of the main perpetrators of the massacre of prisoners in Gohardasht. He would call the prisoners one by one and take them to that room, and when they came out he would take them along the corridor, which led to a large gate. He would lead the prisoners through that gate which remained open.

Well, they took the prisoners one by one. We could hear the names of ten to fifteen prisoners being called out. We saw Hamid Abbasi, who was also the deputy assistant prosecutor and played a very active role in the massacre, held about 10 to 15 cards in his hand or had a list and read out the names of the prisoners one by one. He called out the names and people got up and were led through the corridor, which was later described and widely known as the Death Tunnel. It was actually the continuation of the corridor where we were sitting.
***
This corridor was very dark. We could follow them with our eyes for about 40-50 meters. They were then put into solitary confinement. They were given a sheet of paper and had only 5 minutes to write their will. Then prisoners were taken to a hall that the prison guards called it “Hosseinieh”. It was a big hall that we had never seen before. In fact, this hall had no role in the prison, except for this massacre scene. In fact, we saw nothing but blood in there.
